There sure is a special bond that exists between humans and animals, especially the pets. They have this fierce sense of protection towards humans. Another story is of Hugh Ryono whose elephant seal pup’s name is Gumpy. Usually, he takes his pet to work. One day, he slipped and belly-flopped to the deck in a place close to his office. It was a surprise for him but was able to make out three aggressive seal pups moving towards him. From another corner of the street there was Gumpy rushing towards him. She became Hugh’s shield and protected him against those pups. As they were moving in, she got in the way and swiftly forced them away. Hugh was surprised how his pet was aware of his situation and found him exactly at the right time.
Janice Wolf narrates his story of an incident in which his 11-month old Watusi calf, Lurch saved his life. Janice was in his back pasture when suddenly his calf turned sideways and blocked his path. The calf was being stubborn and not letting him move. Janice tried to push him away by grasping his horns but the calf tossed his head throwing him off-balance. It was that very moment that Janice realized that a copperhead snake lay coiled in the spot where he was about to land. Lurch did what was best to protect his owner. Janice admits that he is too sensitive to insect bites and snake venom could have been fatal for him.
These amazing stories of pets saving their owners prove that friendship and loyalty know no bounds. Animals as pets are a true blessing, and there are medical claims saying that pet owners have a reduced incidence of stress, heart attack or stroke. Do not know how true that is, however, the pets do have some healing powers besides their life saving abilities.
